‘Significant drop’ in ACC claims during nationwide lockdown
Being forced to stay at home to help get the coronavirus pandemic under control in New Zealand saw a dramatic drop in injury claims being lodged with the country’s national insurer.
But any fiscal benefit in not having to deal with tens of thousands of new applications for ACC is remote, as the Crown entity said it expected to report a “significant deficit” this financial year because of other financial hangovers brought on by Covid-19.
The most restrictive lockdown period, known as alert level 4, came into force at 11.59pm on March 25.
During that period, which remained in place until just before midnight on April 27, the bulk of Kiwis, bar those deemed essential workers, were required to stay home.
